Minister Alex Neil Opens New Development in Dundee

A major housing development in Dundee was opened by Scotland's Housing and Communities Minister Alex Neil today (26th Jan 2010).
Hillcrest's 51 unit Kirk Street development includes four special needs houses and four wheelchair homes.
Mr Neil said 'we need new housing in Dundee because much of the housing is not fit for purpose.That's why we have been investing heavily in the social renting here in the city.'
The Kirk Street development is a showcase for;-
~ innovative construction techniques based on modern methods of construction.
~ high quality design in making community provision following the successful guiding principles introduced in the design of the South Staithes development by Wayne Hemingway.
~setting new standards and implementing methods to achieve energy efficient design and construction.
John Mulloy, Group Chief Executive welcomed the Minister and guests, this was followed by a background to the development by Lena Graham of Hillcrest.
Lena Graham thanked the team responsible for delivering the project, the Hillcrest staff, architects KDM, surveyors KLM, engineers Morgan Associates, CDM Hardies and the Dundee construction company Brown Construction.
