Provost Johnston Road, Montrose

Construction of a four storey building to provide 20 self contained sheltered housing flats, together with support service areas including communal lounge, families cafe, social work offices, medical treatment rooms and relatives overnight accommodation. The building, which won the Montrose Society Civic Award, uses a whole building gas heating system that generates surplus energy as a by-product which is then used to power lighting in the communal areas. The interior of the building has been colour co-ordinated by floor and areas to assist the elderly residents identify their surroundings. This development, for Angus Community Care Charitable Trust, was designed by Dundee Architects Baxter Clark & Paul.
